In an game that looked to be all but over, with Southridge ahead three to zero in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Alexandria Tigers refused to give up. They scored two runs in the sixth inning and kept Southridge scoreless during the top of the seventh.
In the bottom of the seventh, with two outs already, second baseman Kole Stewart was looking like the third to seal the game. However, on a swing and miss, the Southridge catcher Chase Taylor lost the ball for a second in the dirt allowing Stewart to make the run for first and beating the throw put the Tigers with a base runner.
That started a rally for the tigers. Brennan Morehead followed with an RBI single, bringing Stewart in and tying the score at 3. That is when big Nick Williams stepped to the plate.
Williams popped up into shallow left field. The Southridge shortstop Colson Montgomery started to get under the ball, while the left fielder came in as well. Prompting both to back off so the other could get it. Moorehead made it to home with the error giving the Tigers a walk-off 3-2 win in the Class 2A state championship game Tuesday at Victory Field.
In celebration, the town met them along Harrison st at 1:30 am to congratulate them for a great season, and a fantastic win. Video of the parade downtown is available on our facebook page.
